There is more on what I wrote about in As if I were not feeling negative enough about EMS already . . . – the pressure put on Mark Glencorse, AKA Medic999, AKA Fire/EMS Blog of the Year, AKA the British half of the Chronicles of EMS, AKA one really nice guy who also writes extremely well, . . . to stop blogging.
The Day Social Media Stood Still: EMS Garage Episode 94 Featuring: Chris Montera, Mark Glencorse, Kyle David Bates, Justin Schorr, Jamie Davis, Ted Setla, Natalie Quebodeaux, Greg Friese, and me. I rant just a tiny bit.
When you get the feeling that people at work are trying to get you fired, pay attention. Trust me, the ignorant incompetents do not maintain their positions through competence, but through networking, politics, and manipulation. This is not to say that networking, politics, or even manipulation are necessarily bad, but that we should be aware of the ways they may be misused.
We are opposed by ignorance.

Mark has never violated patient confidentiality, but that does not prevent the opponents of critical judgment – the What if . . . ? mob from inspiring paranoia that he might all of a sudden start publishing confidential information.
As if Mark’s existing record is not evidence enough that he is not going to misbehave. Maybe they think he was bitten by a zombie on one of his calls and will suddenly (apparently bitten by a fast moving zombie) devolve into something evil.
I think that those critical of Mark already have evil pretty thoroughly covered. Maybe they will change the motto of NHS to Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate (Abandon all hope, ye who enter here). They are depriving us of our Virgil.
However, the mindless administrators in EMS should fear blogs. Blogs will help to expose incompetence.
When in doubt – Panic!
We shouldn’t learn about the things we are not familiar with.
It is much better for us to denounce anything unfamiliar as witchcraft!
This is not what I want for the future of EMS.
This is why I blog – to oppose mismanagement and misinformation in EMS.
This is also covered by Greg Friese in Can employers stop employees from blogging about work?
David Konig and Greg Friese include a special offer that would be very useful to anyone interested in not remaining ignorant about social media in EMS. Social Media Policies for First Responder Agencies.
